Desktop installation
This page describes how to install Martini Desktop. Before downloading the installer and proceeding to the installation, please ensure the application requirements below are met.
Requirements
Martini Desktop can run on minimum system requirements, but in order to have a smoother experience, your machine should meet the recommended system requirements. If your machine does not meet any of these requirements, Martini Desktop may not run very well or not run at all.

Pre-included JDK
You no longer have to install a JDK on your machine, as Martini Desktop's installer already includes a copy of the OpenJDK.
Fresh installation
If you've never installed Martini Desktop before or will like to do a clean install of Martini Desktop, then follow the steps under the respective section of your machine's OS.
To install Martini Desktop for macOS, follow the steps below:
- Download the Martini Desktop installer for macOS.
- Launch the installation wizard by double-clicking on
Martini_Desktop_Installer.dmg
. - Follow the installation procedures in the wizard.
Warnings that appear when trying to install Martini on macOS
Depending on your version of macOS, you may get a warning when trying to install Martini. Some examples of warning messages include:
- The app wasn't downloaded from the App Store.
- Apple can't check it for malicious software.
- Apple cannot verify the developer.
macOS still allows you to install Martini with these warnings. To open the installer:
- Open System Preferences.
- Click on Security & Privacy.
- Click on the Open Anyway button.
After you have successfully installed Martini Desktop on your macOS machine, double-click Martini Desktop
from your Applications
folder to launch it.
To install Martini Desktop for Linux, follow the steps below:
- Download the Martini Desktop installer for Linux.
- Using a command-line application,
cd
into the directory where theMartini_Desktop_Installer_x86_64.sh
shell executable file is located. -
Use the following command to open the setup wizard:

sh Martini_Desktop_Installer_x86_64.sh

Follow the installation procedures.
After following the wizard's instructions, you should now have Martini Desktop successfully installed.
Once installed, double click Martini Desktop
from your chosen installation directory or desktop shortcut
to launch the application. Otherwise, cd
into your chosen installation directory
then run Martini Desktop
to launch the application.
To install Martini Desktop for Windows, follow the steps below:
- Download the Martini Desktop installer for Windows.
- Open the executable installer file to launch the Martini Desktop setup wizard.
- Follow the installation procedures in the wizard.
Exclude Martini Desktop from Windows Defender scans to improve performance
By default, Windows Defender on Windows 10 will execute scans on Martini Desktop. This significantly impacts startup time. As a workaround, you can configure Windows Defender to exclude Martini Desktop from scans. To do this:
- Open Settings. This is usually done using the Start Menu.
- Click "Virus & threat protection".
- Click "Virus & threat protection settings".
- Scroll down and click "Add or remove exclusions".
- Click "Add an exclusion", then select Folder.
- Choose the Martini Desktop installation folder.
After successfully installing Martini Desktop, you can click Martini Desktop
from your chosen installation
directory in the Start menu, or its desktop shortcut if you have chosen to create a shortcut to launch the
application.
After installation, you can now run Martini Desktop to start your instance and install your license.
Updating Martini Desktop
To update an existing Martini Desktop installation:
- Open Martini Desktop.
- Go to the application menu and select Help > Check for Updates. This will open the update wizard.

On the update wizard, select Martini Desktop and/or Martini Runtime.

Follow through the wizard until you click Finish.
- After successfully installing the updates, you will be asked to restart your application.
Overwriting files
After starting the instance after a Martini Runtime update, a dialog will appear so you can select what should be overwritten by the update:

conf/MartiniGroovyCompilerConfig.groovy
conf/log4j.properties

The overridden application properties, data, and packages will not be overwritten during the update.
